American Dream (Salamanca Automuseum)

From July 1 to September 30, the El Sueno Americano collection was presented in the Museum of automobile history of Salamanca, in the hall of temporary exhibitions. The exhibits are owned by private owners who have kindly provided their rarities for the exhibition. In the hall you can see 16 iconic models of the American automobile industry from 1935 to 1984. It is symbolic that the chronological series is opened by a brand bearing the name the Spanish Conquistador Hernando de Soto and had the emblem on the hood, representing the head of a helmeted warrior.

The company was founded in 1928 as a subsidiary of Kreisrler, and cars under this brand were produced until 1960. The Airstream model went on sale in 1934, with an innovative all-metal body, streamlined shapes and state-of-the-art equipment. Thanks to good aerodynamics and a four-liter six-cylinder engine with a capacity of 96 HP, the car had a maximum speed of 140 km/h. However, the model did not cause a stir of demand - in the first year a little less than 14 thousand cars were sold, production was curtailed in 1936, by this time about 40 thousand units were produced. Here we see the four-door model " S " of 1935..
